Over the years I’ve come to realize these teachings are false teachings from the beginning of history. Paul writes to the church in Corinth:
“2 Corinthians 11:3 But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent’s cunning, your minds may somehow be led astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ.”
I am finding and learning that the less I think of myself, and rather the more I focus outward and keep my priorities straight, the better I feel. I sleep easy, I deal with stressful situations better… it is better altogether.
So in every decision I make, I try to prioritize in this order:
- Service, honor, loyalty to God.
- Love my family.
- Love everyone else.
I am not perfect in these things. I am a student and a child of God.
Want to get rid of stress, worry, anxiety, and depression? Stop focusing inward and try focusing outward.
