I keep seeing the false message that fear isn’t real. It is real. In fact, it is a common God-given sense. Part of our conscience. A nessary component of a healthy life. For example, astronauts, machine operators, police/law enforcement, military, and many more must have a reverential awe of the power of their decisions and CHOICES because of potential consequences. Even as an everyday application, fear keeps us from running across the street without looking, diving into an empty pool, and many more things. So many examples, it’s mind boggling.
Fear is fun!?!?
Sure… think about it. If a roller coaster went 5 miles an hour on a flat surface, would people stand in line and wait to get on it even if it were free? No. We want the coaster to go 100 miles per hour on ridiculously crazy curves, twists, bumps, up and down motions… the scarier, the better. If it weren’t for fear, we wouldn’t even feel the thrill.
Fear is respect.
God not only suggested we respect Him but commanded we respect Him. Here I sit asking for His help all the time and crying “why doesn’t He do anything for me?” when I can’t show Him at the very least, the respect the He deserves. He asks us for it, gives us a simple guide, and all I seem to do is make excuses why that doesn’t apply to me now. But when I want a miracle (and I have had many in my life) I expect it from Him. How arrogant of me.
Fear can be bad.
Unnecessary worry over matters that are out of your control is one of many things that come to mind.
Fear is what we make of it… good and bad/unnecessary. and… It’s real.
New Living Translation (©2007) Proverbs 9:10
Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.
